Subject:Dracula's Ball 02/04/12 with THE DROWNING SEASON, CRYO-MANCER & ANNE RICE giveaways!
Posted by:digital_ferret.
Time:7:07 pm.

Free tickets to Dracula's Ball / Chance to meet Anne Rice!

We're very pleased to begin the new year by announcing two fantastic promotions for the February 4th Dracula's Ball that we think you will be very excited about.

The first is that we have a decent (but limited) supply of *free* tickets for the upcoming Dracula's Ball event. To get one, all you have to do is pre-order a copy of Anne Rice's new book, The Wolf Gift, from IsoTank. Your name will be placed on a special Wolf Gift VIP list, and you'll receive FREE admission to the Ball! Be sure to take advantage of this special offer while it lasts. When IsoTank runs out of books, they'll be out of free tickets. Here's the link to pre-order the book:
http://www2.mailordercentral.com/isotank/prodinfo.asp?number=39425-0

Feel free to pass that information on to other friends of your who are Anne Rice fans. It'll be the perfect chance for you to get them out to Dracula's Ball!

As if that wasn't wonderful enough, Anne and her publisher have graciously offered us five door prizes to give away in a special midnight drawing. Each of the five winners will receive a copy of The Wolf Gift, which Anne will autograph for them IN PERSON when she is in Philadelphia a few weeks later. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to win a chance to meet Anne Rice in person!

The next Dracula's Ball event takes place on Saturday, February 4th, 2012. Doors open at 9pm and our event ends at 2am. Tickets are $16 and are on sale now through Ticketmaster (online and in person), Digital Ferret (in person) and IsoTank (online, free shipping for 5 or more tickets). We'll keep our website and Facebook page updated with ticket information. Here's the link to order tickets from IsoTank:
http://www2.mailordercentral.com/isotank/prodinfo.asp?number=39424-0

When we met Anne Rice last month to discuss upcoming projects (and to thank her for sending us the wonderful dress we displayed at the last Dracula's Ball), she was very excited to tell us about her upcoming book, The Wolf Gift. A brand new venture into the realm of dark fiction, The Wolf Gift is a modern and passionate exploration of the world of werewolves.

Pre-order this book from IsoTank and receive a free ticket to the upcoming Dracula's Ball event in Philadelphia on February 4th, 2012. Your name will be on a special "Wolf Gift" VIP list at the venue and you'll receive FREE admission to the Ball!

At Dracula's Ball, there will be a drawing for door prizes at midnight. Five winners will receive a free copy of The Wolf Gift, which will be autographed to the winner by Anne Rice in person. The autograph will be signed in Philadelphia in mid-February.

***Artists Appearing at Dracula's Ball, February 4th, 2012***

As usual, we'll have 3 DJs spinning in 3 separate rooms, so you'll always be able to find a solid groove you can dance to. DJ Spider returns from North Carolina, DJ Miko LeStrange represents DC, and DJ Zircon comes from nearby New Jersey. Now let's meet our live bands:

CRYO-MANCER: Cryomancer is the product of the talents of frontman/guitarist Kryss Oroborus and bassist/vocalist Sparks. Completely restructured and relocated in 2009 the band has changed their sound drastically from electro to a unique hard edged, guitar driven industrial metal/coldwave style.
STAGE TIME - 10:35pm

THE DROWNING SEASON: Putting the rock back in goth-rock, this Baltimore band has been laying down sonic napalm on the dancefloor for nearly twelve years. Major influences include The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission (UK) and Fields of the Nephilim. This is their second appearance at Dracula's Ball.
STAGE TIME - 12:05am

This Ball takes place in our favorite location, Shampoo Nightclub, at 7th & Willow Streets in Philadelphia, PA (Mapquest and Google Maps info can be found on our website). As always, the Ball is open to all ages, but you must be 21+ with proper photo ID to drink. Shampoo has an on-site free parking lot but it fills up very quickly for the Ball. Check our map of available nearby parking on Facebook if you're arriving late. Personal photo cameras are welcome. Large professional camera rigs with unpleasant flash bulbs are not. Video cameras are not allowed.

This is our first Ball of 2012 and we're very excited to be offering you free tickets and personal autographs, courtesy of Anne Rice and her publisher. Join us on February 4th and you may win a chance to meet the Queen of Vampires herself!

Best wishes,

[Patrick] & Dracula's Ball Staff

Subject:Dracula's Ball October 31st, 2011 with The Last Dance, Psyche Corporation, DJ Addam Bombb, MORE!
Posted by:digital_ferret.
Time:5:34 pm.

The next Dracula's Ball event takes place on Monday, October 31st, 2011 and includes live performances by The Last Dance (*exclusive East Coast show*) and Psyche Corporation as well as DJs Addam Bombb and other guests. 3 dancefloors of non-stop music!

Tickets are $16 in advance. All ages are welcome. If you want to drink alcohol, you must be 21+ w/photo ID. Admission at the door will be $18. Tickets are on sale now.

Advance tickets can be purchased *in person* from Ticketmaster or Digital Ferret, or *online* from Ticketmaster or IsoTank. Those with advance tickets are admitted first, before those paying at the door.

Dracula's Ball takes place at Shampoo Nightclub in Philadelphia, on Willow Street between 7th and 8th Streets. The club has a large enclosed parking lot which is free, but it does fill up early during Ball events. Doors open at 9pm and the event ends at 2am. In addition to live bands and DJs, there are vendors, candy and door prizes. The official DB website can be found at: http://www.draculasball.com/

PSYCHE CORPORATION: Psyche Corporation is an alloy. One part darkwave fairytale, one part cyberpunk celebration of all things godly and machine. Cellos and guitars provide an angelic element while the keyboards and sensual, edgy vocals suggest something...a bit more earthly (or earthy, if you prefer). Besides a bewitching live show, Psyche Corporation has an entire world of their own - check their website.
STAGE TIME - 10:35pm
See Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UL-IhuYw5wM

THE LAST DANCE: **EXCLUSIVE EAST COAST SHOW!** It's been several years since we've hosted this outstanding California band at Dracula's Ball and we thought that Halloween would be the perfect time to fly them here for an exclusive show. Passionate and melodic male vocals, dark danceable synth sounds and goth-rock rhythm and guitars give The Last Dance an intoxicating sound that still rocks your socks off.

The next Dracula's Ball event takes place on Saturday, October 30th and includes live performances by Seraphim Shock and Celldweller as well as three DJs spinning in three separate rooms.

All ages are welcome. If you want to drink alcohol, you must be 21+ w/photo ID. Tickets are $16 and are on sale now at Ticketmaster (in person or online), IsoTank.com and Digital Ferret CDs.

Our Halloween event has sold out for many years running.... As such, we recommend advance tickets in the strongest possible terms. Every year we turn away several hundred people who want to attend but did not purchase tickets.

Costumes are encouraged but not required. Although this is our Halloween event, please note that it takes place on Saturday the 30th of October. Of course, a few hours after we open, midnight will roll around and we'll kick off the official start of Halloween!

Subject:Art Show!
Posted by:gawebmaster.
Time:7:59 am.
I just wanted to quickly remind everyone that my art show is coming up. The opening is the Sunday after New Years, so just over two weeks away-- right after the holidays. It runs from 3-5 pm at the Middle East Restaurant, on Central Square, in Cambridge.

Appetizers will be free, and you can buy drinks there-- I'll be staying after with a few people to eat dinner, as well. We may still have a little more crash space, but the place is small so I'm not sure.

I'd really love it if you could all come and support me at my first show. There's more info on the show at http://ian-x.com/exhibits/1/ (The full sized images linked there are NOT work safe for most people, but not super bad either.) Drop me an email if you have any questions. If you're definitely coming, let me know.

Thanks,
Ian

Subject:Blood Letters Newsletter - Sept. 2nd, 2007
Posted by:gawebmaster.
Time:10:56 pm.
This week's newsletter is a little different from most. That's because I have a little news, beyond the newest photos.

I turned 29 this summer, and part of the goals I have set for myself before I turn 30 is to take my art further. This means doing photography that feels like even better art, and also finding new venues to show it. My websites are my first home, but I'd like even more people to see my work.

So far, things have been going well. The biggest news is that I will have my first art show this winter (if I don't arrange another one sooner), in a cool venue, run by a real gallery. I'm looking forward to that, and hopefully more to come. Once the show starts, I will also be offering you guys the same limited run of signed, numbered, framed prints from the show.

I have also started an account on DeviantArt. This is mostly to make connections, show my work to a different crowd, and get a sense of which images are most popular. However, I'm happy for members and fans of Blood Dolls to check this out as well.

Check out some of the most popular images on my account:
http://ian-x.deviantart.com/art/Calico-quot-Pour-quot-from-Lethe-62850595
http://ian-x.deviantart.com/art/Ayame-quot-Peer-quot-from-Curious-62847673
http://ian-x.deviantart.com/art/Mia-from-quot-X-quot-62853823
http://ian-x.deviantart.com/art/Ayame-Crow-Girl-Witch-62847143

The general page can be found at http://ian-x.deviantart.com -- I hope you will take a look.

That brings us to the photo update for the week, and it's something unusual as well. A thank you, to my mentor and business partner for quite a few years now, R. St. Laurent. He's the brains behind Pleiades Web Press, and an artist I have looked up to since my first months doing this. This week's updates are from his latest site, MinxAddiction (http://www.minxaddiction.com) featuring his latest Muse, Minx.

I'll be back next week with a more usual update, including some of my new photography.

Thanks,
Ian X.

Time:8:13 pm.
So, having been out of the studio for a while, I'm now on a roll... One shoot in July, and two in August. Yesterday really felt like I was in the groove, doing interesting takes on some standard stuff, and one really big new thing. I think I'll just show you, rather than explaining...

Subject:Introducing Dicephaly
Posted by:gawebmaster.
Time:7:40 am.
It's such a relief to be creating again, and my unwilling time off (busy with other things) has really reenergized me. Working with great models doesn't hurt. (Yes, for those of you who read, I'm the photographer posting this. Please don't tell me how pretty I am, it'll only embarrass us both.)

This past Sunday, I worked with Dicephaly. She hasn't modeled much, mostly for friends, but she's a natural-- dynamic poses, an incredibly photogenic face, and that certain something. Click for some of my favorites from her shoot... Relatively work safe.Collapse )

Subject:Portfolio Help!
Posted by:gawebmaster.
Time:1:41 pm.
I could use some help with my portfolio... Specifically, with narrowing down the best 18 photos for a particular portfolio project. (This post replaces an earlier similar one, as this is the second round of voting.)

If you would like to help, mostly by looking at my photos, please read on...

First, the basics... Some of my work is erotic in nature. Nothing in the link below is explicit, and only a few are suggestive. The portfolio I'm building is for general consumption, so "this is too porny" is a perfectly good reason to dump a photo. I'm looking for the 18 best pieces of art.

Second, the process...

You will look at 23 photos (plus one variant on one of them).

Select your five least-favorites (not favorites) from among them. This is the opposite of what people expect, but will help me weed out the ones that should go. For each that you choose, a brief explanation of why it made the list would be great.

Then, select your two most-favorite photos from among them. This helps me know which ones are so popular they shouldn't be voted out. It's also a nicer kind of feedback to get. Feel free to include reasons here as well.

One note: There is one photo in there with two versions. Please only include one version (at most) in each category (up or down). Only one version will make it in, so knowing which you like best, or least, will be enough to help me select.

The URL to see these photos is http://ian-x.com/whichofthesearemybestever/

Any takers? :) Thanks!

Subject:Portfolio 2006
Posted by:gawebmaster.
Time:7:45 pm.
I have created a draft online portfolio of my photographic work for 2006. I would like, for a number of reasons, to get a sense of which photos are seen as best, or most universally liked-- and, in fact, any that people just think aren't particularly good.

My goal is to put together a slightly pruned online portfolio, and a more seriously pruned printed one (because of expense). Any help you could give in singling out individual photos (anywhere from one to a dozen of the 130+) for praise, comment, or ridicule would be a huge help in this project.

To view my 2006 portfolio, just Click Here!

It would help if you could use the titles/filenames, if you decide to help out. (The gallery expands the number of columns to fit your browser.) You can see the name when you click to view a large version of the image, or by hovering your mouse over the thumbnail. If you help me out, I will... Well, let you look at my 130+ favorite photos of 2006, for free.

(Note: The above link is Not Work Safe, but nothing rated more than R.)
